1 1/2

From 2011-04-15

I never get to be on the internet any more and when I am, I certainly don't have enough time to type something.  So while the Sprout is entertaining himself in his crib and not taking a nap like he is supposed to be, I will write a few things.

The Sprout is officially 1 1/2 years now, but it seems like he has been this old for a while now.  He tantrums and demands and screams allot.  He is constantly running and playing outside.  The neighbours gave us their toy slide, so he plays on that allot.  Because the garden lines up with our windows, I don't have to be there every second.  This doesn't mean I am not paying attention, but it does mean I can empty the washing machine or get a drink while he is playing.  But he did manage to eat a snail when I wasn't looking a couple of days ago.  I think that would have happened regardless.

We went to get his first pair of shoes from a shoes store on Saturday.  He was fitted and everything  and although he was wary of the sales girl, we found two pairs we liked.  He wears a 4 1/2 G.

The Sprout is 79 cm tall, but I haven't had him weighed for 6 months, I suppose I should do that tomorrow.

To my relief, he now uses crayon to draw instead of to eat.  We have a growing collection of art piling up.  I want to get some paints now that it is warm and sunny so we can make a mess outside.

Speaking of messes, we have been gardening.  The Sprout loves digging in the dirt and dumping it all over the front porch.  He also loves to dig up the plants I just planted and then try to plant them again.  He is fascinated by bugs, but is not yet aware that they are living things, oh well, a dead snail is a good snail.

We still don't really say real words, but I am not worried about that.  We think his first word is "shoes" just because he pointed and made a sound that sounded incredibly like "shoes."  We also think he has said "love you" but that is under speculation.

We finally kicked the binki habit.  All I had to do was keep it out of sight.  I do have to admit that on days where he has been incredibly difficult I will put it in his mouth and it makes him tolerable.  I think it is weird that he won't put a finger in his mouth.  He did find his nose though...

Richard and I have slipped him some ice cream, and of course he loves it.  I just bought some popcicle moulds so we can make healthy popcicles.  The ones in the store are incredibly bad for you.

As for me, I am stuck at Costa.  I didn't get the jobs in the States, so I will be studying for my "Life in Britain" test so I can get my English Citizenship in July.  I saw my first movie in the cinema since I had the Sprout.  I saw Scream 4 and thought it was stupid.  To be fair, I slept through half of it, and I am not a big fan of the Scream movies.  But I wanted to go anyway.

Our apple tree has beautiful white and pink flowers on it, I should take a picture.  It is amazing how all the flowering trees and spring flowers lifts your spirit and turns the city into a beautiful place.  We have been lucky to have had such beautiful weather for the past month or so.  We have been able to turn off the heating.

My new favourite baby gear is the 360 degree cup.  It looks like a plastic tumbler but it has a ring at the top that is leak proof.  The kid still has to suck on it, but they can do it at any place on the lip like a real cup.  It has been helpful because the Sprout is always wanting to drink out of my cup and results in really soggy clothes.

(just checked, you can't get these in the States!!
Guess I will have to bring some back)

Thanks for the post, Sweetie. It's nice to get an update. By the way, I can totally see the resemblance to R in the first picture!! :)

Escargot is a delicacy in some countries. Maybe Nathan has more refined tastes than you think? D

Snail smells. I forgot to add that he smeared it all over the door.
