Real diaper trial part 1

Ms. Molly is going to join me on my Real Diaper Trial this week.  We are going to shed our disposables (except for at night) and wrap our chillins in cloth.

I received a few real diapers from the Real Nappy Project that is sponsored by the Bradford Council and it got me thinking that I should give it a try.  This week I have had a couple of practice runs and I think the road will be rocky (literally because the Sprout loves to roll back and forth) but I think we can do it.

I scoured Ebay (a site that I now have to ban myself from) and found pre-folds, cotton waterproof diaper wraps and motherease all sizes for really cheap.  I spent about £50 in all (well I didn't, the Sprout did...love that £80 a month which we use for disposables and whatever else he needs).  I ended up buying the motherease one size because I got 10 for £30!  These usually cost £8 on average each...yes they are used, but even better. And as it is, if I convert to reusables I won't have to buy any more diapers.

I am not quite sure about my method because I have never done this before.  The Sprout doesn't seem to have sensitive skin, however I did read you should only use a small amount to soap and if you want them soft and white to use some vinegar and then put them on the line to dry.  I have also read that a couple of drops of tea tree oil in the soaking pail works to sanitize.  I have read that if you launder often, you don't need to soak the diapers.  I know this to be true because I use pre-folds under the Sprout when I change him and we have had minimal staining.

I will keep posting to tell you how it goes.
